PRAYER
Practicing time in God’s presence.
Practice bringing your whole self into the presence of God.
Prayer is an ongoing relationship with God where we learn to tell the truth about who he is and who we are. In that honest exchange, our hearts are shaped, our trust grows, and we discover his presence in every season of life.
The Practice
Adoration is telling the truth about who God is. It turns our attention away from ourselves and toward his character, helping us see him as he truly is—holy, good, faithful, and worthy of our worship. As we behold God rightly, our hearts are reordered around his greatness rather than our circumstances.
Core Practice: Pause and name what is true about God before saying anything about yourself.
Confession is telling the truth about who we are. It is the practice of bringing our failures, weaknesses, and misplaced desires into God’s presence without hiding or pretending. As we honestly acknowledge our need for grace, we discover that God’s mercy is greater than our shame.
Core Practice: Bring what you would rather hide into the light of God’s love.
Lament is telling the truth about our pain. It is the courageous act of bringing our grief, questions, disappointments, and suffering before God instead of carrying them alone. As we honestly express our hurt while remaining in his presence, trust is formed even when answers do not come.
Core Practice: Tell God what hurts and choose to stay in relationship with him.
Thanksgiving is telling the truth about God’s faithfulness. It trains us to remember his presence, provision, and goodness in both extraordinary and ordinary moments. As gratitude reshapes our attention, we learn to recognize that God has been with us all along.
Core Practice: Remember and acknowledge the ways God has been present and faithful.
Petition is telling the truth about our dependence on God. It is the practice of bringing our needs, desires, hopes, and concerns before him with humility and trust. As we learn to ask, seek, and knock, we discover that prayer is less about controlling outcomes and more about entrusting our lives to a loving Father.
Core Practice: Bring your needs honestly to God and trust him with the outcome.
